Investigation of Cryptosporidium Infection in children with diarrhea in Jahrom city in 1393

Cryptosporidium is the protozoans coccidian and important cause diarrhea in humans, especially children and animals. Although reports of outbreaks of Cryptosporidium infection are available in several parts of Iran; But the parasite is not examined in Parasitology usual tests. Therefore, the study performed with the aim of frequency determination of Cryptosporidium infection in children with diarrhea in Jahrom city for the first time. In this study, a total of 106 stool specimens from children under 12 years with diarrhea that referred to Jahrom laboratory centers were examined to determine Cryptosporidium infection in during 1393. On beginning, samples was concentrated with Formol-ether method and after staining with modified acid fast method, were studied microscopically. In this study, 2 children (1/9%) were diagnosed with Cryptosporidiosis. The case was a 1-year-old boy and The second case related to a 3-year-old girl. There were not a significant relationship between the infection rate of Cryptosporidiosis and age, sex, using of breast milk in children under 2 years, geolocation and drinking water. Percentage of very low contamination with this parasite in children with diarrhea in Jahrom city stating that this parasite does not count as a public health problem in the region yet.
