The Relationship Analysis of Lifestyle with Cultural Identity among the Youth in Tabriz City

Nowadays, the issue of cultural identity has become a global issue in developed and underdeveloped countries. Cultural identity is only one of the five identities which play an important role in defining and re-defining individuals along with their other identities. The present article, using Giddens ideas about lifestyle and identity, investigates and analyzes the youth's cultural identity based on their lifestyle. This present study is a survey one conducted using a researcher-made questionnaire distributed among a sample size of 400 participants between 18 to 30 years old in Tabriz Metropolis in 2013. The sampling method is multistage clusters sampling. Findings of the study indicate that there is a significant correlation between the youth's lifestyle and their cultural identity in such a way that whatever the lifestyle of the society is modern we can see reduced amount of the cultural identity and whatever the lifestyle of the society is traditional we can see strong cultural identity of people. In addition, there is a correlation between their economic-social status and their cultural identity, while no significant correlation is observed between their sex and cultural identity.
