Message:
Abstract:
Aim
Maintain, transfer and generalization of fluency pattern is an important therapeutic process and extensively a challenge in treatment of stuttering. Some tumbledown patients learn fluency pattern in clinic but they unable to transfer it to new situations and environments. We tried to facilitate transfer and generalization process of patients in difficult situations by therapist's accompaniment.
Methods
10 patients were selected from mashhad clinic whose learned fluency pattern in the clinic. The treatment process was held for 4 sessions of 2 hours in 2 weeks and initial assessment session 45-minutes. At the initial meeting we evaluated the percentage of syllables stuttered located and his/her stuttering severity. During each session the last conversation was considered as an evaluated conversation of that session. During these sessions the therapist reminded the patient to using of fluency pattern.
Results
Confidence intervals (t=3.373,P<0.05)suggested that the average stuttering problem of patients in initial meeting was greater than fourth session. This means that the stuttering problem was decreased by intervention. Participants used fluency pattern more in fourth session compared to first session.
Conclusion
Therapist’s accompaniment with patients had positive effects on maintain, transfer and generalization of fluency pattern to new situations and deduction of their difficulties. Consequently we recommend to speech and language pathologist use this method to facilitate maintain, transfer and generalization process of fluency pattern.
