A comparative Study of Influence of Sex on Phonological Awareness Skills in Children with Speech Sound Disorder with Two Phonological Awareness Tests

Phonological awareness is one of the auditory perception skills that related to articulation skills. Children with speech sound disorder (SSD) usually have a delay in phonological awareness skills. Study of difference in girls and boys with speech sound disorders in these skills to diagnose of difference between function of them and attention to one of the sex is necessary. The aim of this research was study of difference between girls and boys in phonological skills in children with speech sound disorders.This study was cross- sectional and descriptive- analytic. Twenty 5- 6 years old children with SSD were studied. Children were normal in aspects of cognition, physical and movement. Only they had SSD. Phonological awareness assessment of these children was implemented using two auditory (Asha- 5) and visual-auditory (Soleimani- Dastjerdi) tests. Children scores in phonological awareness and and its subgroups were done with independent t-test and U Man Witni. All of analyses were implemented using SPSS version 18. The result showed that there is not significant difference between means percent of phonological awareness and its subgroup in both of tests in sex (P- Value> 0/05). In both of two phonological awareness tests the score of girls are better than boys. The girls and boys with speech sound disorder have same function in phonological awareness Tests.
