Relationship between Tendency towards Modern Lifestyle and Secularization: Empirical Study of Iran after the Islamic Revolution

Message:
Abstract:
After the Islamic Revolution in Iran, significant changes slowly occurred in people’s lifestyle. Evidence of that lifestyle changes is visible in various parts of their lives. On the other hand, some researchers believe that religiosity in the society has declined. According to many studies carried out in Iran, the decline, particularly in terms of practical and collective action is significant and problematic. At the same time, a new issue about the question of religion in Iran, not only religion and its evolution, is that of secularization. In other words, the main question is whether the religious community of Iran, based on the experience of the secularization in the Christian West, is going to become a secular society? In this study, attempts have been made to study the relationship between dimensions of Iranian lifestyle and secularization. The study was conducted through a survey in the city of Boroujerd. Random sampling was used to collect the data. The results show that there is a direct significant relationship between the people’s tendency towards modern lifestyle in various dimensions and secular trends. This relationship, especially in the more objective dimensions of secularization, is stronger.
