Effect of research workshop on knowledge of clinical nurses in Medical University at East Azarbaijan province in 2014

Nurses as biggest manpower in health care centers must have evidence based practices, so they need to have knowledge about principles of research methodology, according to the inactivity of nurses about clinical researches, their training and continuing education is necessary.The aim of this study was to determine the effect of research workshop on nurses’ knowledge.
This quasi-experimental study was conducted on the 90 personnel in Medical University at East Azarbaijan province, in 2014. Participants were trained in the two-days workshop for 12 hour, by using slides and through teamwork. The knowledge of Participants, was measured before and after the course with using a researcher made questionnaire (that content validity was conducted and it’s reliability was approved). Data were analyzed with using SPSS version 17 through descriptive statistics and paired T-test.
The difference between mean scores of the pre-test and post-test mean score was statistically significant, and the training course increased knowledge about research methodology. Also the score of knowledge was significantly correlated with gender and education.
Conclution: Teaching research methodology in the form of workshop, increasded knowdlege of nurses,due to the importance of evidence based practices and nurses’s separation from research activities, more attention to the continuing education and emphasis on research activities among this population is recommended.
