An Analysis of the Future Studies in Law Enforcement Knowledge Generation
Future Study knowledge, as a new knowledge that involves an organized and explicit rationale about alternative futures and is based on specific assumptions and employs its own methods of thought, values and special theories, is very important in disciplinary missions that are constantly dealing with social phenomena. The aim of this study is to investigate the status of future study knowledge in the generation of law enforcement knowledge.
In terms of its objectives this study is of an applied research type. Regarding the data gathering method it is a descriptive-survey study. The statistical population of the study included all 125 executives of Police research centers, managers and experts involved in Police research and scientific publications. Considering the active representatives and managers and experts, all of the individuals were selected and surveyed using census method. The research instrument was a researcher-made questionnaire with an acceptable validity and reliability (α=70%) in three domains of specialized knowledge, knowledge support, knowledge management. The findings of this study show that the developed knowledge in the field of future study in the context of scientific papers does not possess an appropriate amount of articles and compared with its optimum level in terms of the relevant authorities, is not in a satisfying position. These results will lead us to that fact that we need to take the advantage of the capabilities and capacities available in generation of knowledge, and make serious efforts to set up at least one scientific or scholarly scientific Journal to provide the required infrastructure for the development of Futures Studies in police and to attract the activities of elite and those interested in this domain.
