The purpose of this investigation was to determine the effectiveness of calligraphy in reducing anxiety among female high school students.

Abstract:
The participants were a group of students studying in Tehran, the first district, in the academic year 1388-1389. The school was randomly selected. The research design was an quasi-experimental design, with pre-test and post-test. The subjects were randomly assigned to experimental and control group. Using Zang self rating anxiety scale, the anxiety level of 154 students was evaluated. Thirty students who had the highest level of anxiety were randomly assigned to the intervention (n =15) and control (n = 15) groups. The intervention group received 10 sessions of calligraphy training (every session 25 minutes for each student) and the control group received no training. At the end, both groups were given the same questionnaire as the posttest. The results of the pre-test and post-test were analyzed using covariance. The significant decrease in the anxiety level of the study group suggested a positive role for calligraphy in reducing anxiety.
