A comparison of Hadighat Al-Hadighat and Shariat Al-Tarighat with the Sources of Narration

Sanaee Ghaznavi is the great Iranian poet who lived in the second half of fifth century and the first of sixth century. Sanaee’s Hadighat Al Hadighat includes narrations which had already been presented in the previous Persian and Arabic literary works. This study tries to analyze and compare some narrations of Hadighat Al Hadighat with their original sources in the form of story. The study also aims at exploring the degree of adaptation and innovation in the work of Sanaee. Furthermore, the study has taken into consideration the common and different features of Sanaee’s work and the original sources. The results of study show that Sanaee has changed the characters into typical nameless ones who are called ‘a man’, ‘a person’, etc. Although Sanaee has changed the story elements, he has saved the main themes and subjects of the original stories. Conversation is one of recurrent elements in Hadighat stories, where by the poet presents the characters to the readers. One of Sanaee’s innovations is that he has expanded some short conversations to real narrations through adding some story elements to them. As for the point of view, Sanaee himself is the omniscient narrator of his stories. Sanaee has not changed the point of view of the adapted works, except for few of them. Because of brevity, he has not been concerned with the settings of his narrations.
