Institution of Religion and Security; Relationship between Religiosity and Sense of Social Security among the Residents of Peripheral Areas of Kashan City

The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between religiosity and the sense of social security. It employs a range of theories including socio-cultural environment theory, Durkheim's anomie theory, and Newman's defensible spaces theory. This study is based on a survey that includes a sample of 384 residents of peripheral areas of the city of Kashan. According to the descriptive findings of this study, the individuals included in the sample hold a relatively moderate level of religiosity and a very low level of security feeling. The lowest level of security feeling relates to occupational and financial aspects.
Also, the multivariate results show that the sense of social security is significantly associated with the level of religiosity: the higher the latter, the greater the former. According to the results of logistic regression analysis, the belief aspect of religiosity has the strongest effect on the sense of social security and religiosity as whole could explain 23 percent of the variations in the dependent variable of this research.
