Adolescent's Problems and their Relationship with Family Institution: The Case Study of Parental Conflicts and Adolescent's Mental Health

Abstract:
Young people constitute a substantial proportion of Iran’s population that echoes a greater importance of studies focusing on them. This also applies to this study, which is based on a survey conducted in Shiraz city. The research sample includes 600 high-school students who have been selected by the method of multistage random sampling. They have completed the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ) which contains 28 questions. The results of this study indicate that the students’ mental health is significantly affected by family income, parents’ behavior with them both inside and outside the home, and parental conflicts. In sum, the regression model of research could explain 41 percent of variation in the dependent variable of the present study.
