Comparison of Blood Coagulation Time in The Presence of Whole Saliva in Diabetic and Non-diabetic Persons

Message:
Abstract:
Introduction
The main responsible agents in coagulation cascade are proteins. Because of metabolism deficiency, this path could be disrupted in diabetes mellitus. Saliva is a great source of proteins, some of which have coagulation properties. In the current study, we aimed to compare blood coagulation time in the presence of whole saliva in diabetics and non-diabetics.
Materials And Methods
In this analytical, case-control study, 25 controlled diabetes patients with HbA1c
Results
The results of this study did not show ant statistically significant correlation between blood coagulation time in the presence of saliva and vein or capillary FBS and HbA1c (P>0.05).
Conclusions
Variation in proteins’ metabolism is a long-term process that needs sufficient time for significant effect. Since controlled diabetes patients were enrolled, the correlation of FBS and HbA1c with coagulation time in the presence of whole saliva was not statistically significant.
