A Comparision of Academic Achievment and Parenting Styles in Students Bully and Victim

The aim of the present study was to compare the academic achievment and parenting styles in students bully and victim. A total of 750 secondary school students were randomly selected by clnster sampling method and screened for bulling and victimization behaviors. The sample was divided into overachiever and underachiever students and they completed the bullying-victim questionnaire. Teacher nomination of bullying behaviors and peer victimization was utilised as a complimentary method. Additionally, students in two academic achievement groups completed Bamrind parenting styles questionnaire. The results of independent t test and manova revealed that: 1) overachiever and underachiever students are significantly different in bulling behaviors and peer victimization, 2) overachiever and underachiever students are significantly different in bulling behaviors and peer victimizatio with respect to parenting styles. The implications on the effects of academic conditions and parenting style on bulling and victimization are disscussed.
