A Study on Effectiveness of Recidivism Prevention in Sanandaj Central Prison

Abstract:
One type of crime prevention, is recidivism prevention which is carried out by various programs in prisons of the country. Through these programs alongside imprisonment, convicts go under programs that reduce their tendency toward crime. On the other hand, one of the most important indicators of the effectiveness of criminal policy is the rate of recidivism. This study seeks to answer the question whether the programs related to the prevention of recidivism in Sanandaj Central Prison are effective? To answer this question experimental and control groups (total of 200 people) of prisoners were selected by systematic sampling. Crime prevention training program was conducted over 2 months for the experimental group and finally questionnaire related to the tendency to repeat offenses were completed among both groups and the results were compared. Based on findings, the difference in means in the two groups was significant; In other words, preventive educational program in the central prison of Sanandaj, has been effective and has affected the rate of recidivism among prisoners.
