Exploring Behavioral Factors Facilitating Treatment of Tuberculosis: A Qualitative Study

Smear positive pulmonary Tuberculosis (TB) patients are the main source ofTB infectionin the population and could causethe development of drug-resistant TB prevalence. Therapeutic interventions without applyin causes of behaviors associated with treatment will not be successful .This study aimed to explore behavioral factors influencing treatment of tuberculosis patients.
This study is a qualitative research. Cases were selected using purposive sampling with maximum variance. Data were obtained through unstructured in-depth interviews with 37 persons (21 male and 16 female) and view medical records, recorded Information in the Tuberculosis register program and Registration Office of TB patients in health centers. Interviews continued for a period of 13 months until data saturation was achieved. After the recording all interviews transcript word by word and using constant comparison and concurrent with data collection was conducted their analysis.
Findings: In results of data analysis, behavioral factors facilitating treatment were classified in six categories that are include; quitting of drug and tobacco during treatment, methadone therapy during treatment, not going to travel during treatment, not tired and being serious in correct use of medicines until end of the treatment period, hope to improvement and healthy as a factor for treatment adherence and normalization of taking medications for patients.
Results showed behavioral factors affect thetreatment of patients with tuberculosis. Therefore should be planned and implemented appropriate educational interventions to strengthen behavioral factors facilitating wiith the aim of influence on treatment.
