Assessing the Effect of Educational Program Based on Staffs Health Literacy on Promoting Self Efficacy among Patients with Chronic Disease

Abstract:
Background
Health Literacy is the degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions. The purpose of this study was to determine the Promoting self efficacy in chronic patients through educating health literacy for the staffs of health centers in Mashhad.
Methods
This randomized clinical trial study was conducted among 240 patients with chronic diseases in two experimental and control groups. They were selected by multistage random sampling. Four communication skills such as speaking, writing, enabling and improving support systems were used in intervention. Intervention was performed in three focus group discussions and a workshop for 12 staffs (doctor, nurse, dietitian and disease) in the experimental group. Tools of current study were health literacy assessment, Adult Primary Care Questionnaire and self efficacy in chronic disease. Intervention in a form of Focus group discussions was performed in 3 educational sessions (45-60minuts) and workshop in experimental group .In order to analyzing data, SPSS16 software was used and independent t- test, Chi-square, ANOVA were conducted.

Conclusion
Based on finding, designed and implementation of educational interventions to improve health literacy of staff in comparison with current education will be more efficient and it can improve patient’s self-efficacy.
