The Relationship between Patient-Centered Care and Health Outcomes in a Hospital: Tehran

Patient-centered care is frequently identified as a preferred approach to patients care and there is assumed that significantly influences the process of care and patient`s outcomes. The aim of this study is evaluating the relationship between patient-centered care and health outcomes in hospital.
Material & This descriptive-analytic study was performed in Ayatollah Kashani hospital in Tehran during 2016. The population was included all patients in hospitalization wards. 445 patients were selected using random sampling. Two validated questionnaire (assessment of patient-centered care and health outcomes) was used to collect data. All data were analyzed using the SPSS22. The relationship between patient-centered care and health outcomes was investigated by calculating Spearman’s correlation.
Average patient-centered care and health outcomes were 3.93±0.83 and 2.96±0.79 respectively. Spearman test results showed the significant relationship between dimensions of patient-centered care and health outcomes (p The results showed that there is a positive correlation between patient-centered care and health outcomes. With regard to the relationship between these two variables, hospital managers should provide conditions for implementation of patient-centered care programs to improve patients’ health status.
