The relationship between trust and political participation and attitudes towards democracy among the students with the emphasis on security

Security and feeling security are multidimensional concepts, and depending on the conditions and people, they emerge in different shapes. And the resources for feeling security are different for individuals and community groups. One of the important factors that affect the security of the citizens is trust, and consequently political participation as an important indicator of social capital components. This study examined the relationship between trust and political participation on the students' political attitudes toward democracy by emphasizing the issue of security. In this study, social capital is investigated in the form of four dimensions of social trust, social participation, social cohesion and knowledge, and also the impact of each of these dimensions on attitudes toward democracy and political participation is measured. The statistical population of The study consisted of the students of public universities, Medical Sciences, Islamic Azad and Payam Noor in the Islamic Republic of Iran. In this study the survey approach was used. Furthermore, in order to collect the data a researcher made questionnaire was distributed randomly among the sample. The sample size was determined as 400 people using Cochran formula. The collected data were analyzed using statistical software and Pearson correlation coefficient.The results showed that the correlation between these two variables is 0.184, And the p-value is equal to 0.001. Given that the amount of obtained p-value is smaller 0.05, therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between the political trust and political participation among the students of public universities , Medical Sciences, Islamic Azad, Payam Noor in the Islamic Republic of Iran
