Frequency of futile care in viewpoint of ICU nurses in province of Qazvin (2014)

Futile care is provided many complicated challenges for nursing in intensive care units in Iran.
This study aimed to study prevalence of futile care from the viewpoints of nurses that working ICU.
This descriptive-analytical study was conducted on totally 210 nurses working in all ICU of academic, public, and private hospitals of Qazvin city in 2014. Data were analyzed using Chi-square, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA and Friedman tests.
Findings: The most prevalence of providing futile care was in teaching hospital (51.98±23.2), and the least prevalence was in charity hospital (37.3±12.77). There was significant difference between mean of futile care in different hospitals (P As the key role of nurses in the managing futile care, awareness about prevalence of this kind of care, could be initial step for providing benefit care plans in ICU.
