The role of knowledge management in environmental sustainable development (Case study: department of the environment)

Considering that the concepts of the modern public management is embedded in different dimensions of the sustainable development and is inseparable from it; and also with respect to the fact that environment is one of the components and indicators of the sustainable development, the objective of this research is to review different components and aspects of knowledge management in the Department of environment.
The research method is descriptive-practical. Respondents were the experts and managers of the Department of Environment. Evaluation tool was a questionnaire that prepared according to Likert’s five degree. Data was analyzed with SPSS­17 software, using multi-variable correlation and regression methods. In this survey four hypotheses was investigated. The relationship between different variables of these hypotheses was investigated using correlation test and stepwise regression.
Findings of the survey approve the relationship between knowledge management and selection of managers and the role of knowledge management components in improving performance of department.
The dimensions of knowledge management also indicated that knowledge management and knowledge utilization of less than average level, knowledge acquiring of less than average level, knowledge holding of average level and knowledge sharing of more than average level exists in the department of environment. Thus, generally knowledge management in the department of environment is in an unacceptable level.
