Exegetical Rules of " Tafsīr-i Āsān"

Tafsīr-i Āsān, Selections of Authentic Exegeses is compiled by the contemporary commentator, Ayatollah Muhammad-Javad Najafi Khomeini. It lacks of a comprehensive introduction showing the commentator’s exegetical fundamentals, rules, and method. Regarding the position of Tafsīr-i Āsān as one of the most authentic contemporary interpretations, as well as, the importance of exegetical rules, this research is to explain its exegetical rules. As a result, it is argued that the commentator used the following rules: considering a correct reading, referring to glossaries and not merely relying on the subjective translations, considering the lexical notions of Quranic words in the time of revelation, referring doubts to certainties, considering causes and dignities of revelations, not using of Israeli reports, paying attention to the contexts of verses and chapters, considering rules of Arabic literature, and paying attention to exceptions, jary and taṭbīq of verses.
