Abstract:
Poetry was esteemed very important in older times, such that they called it Helleh. Its fibers consist of elements with music being the most important one and it is closely linked to other poetic elements. If the musical ambience fits the theme of a poem, it will have a significant role in delivering influence and conveying the meanings and emotions behind it.
Ibn Arandas is a renowned Shiite poet who has written many odes in praise or elegy of the infallible imams, especially Imam Hussain. One of his most famous odes in this regard is a rayyah which eulogizes the infallible Imams, particularly, Imam Hussain. By choosing Bahr-al Tavil, letters, musical words and syllables commensurate with the state and rhetorical devices such as puns, antitheses and ambiguities, the poet has created a unique musical ode; such that though its innate music, the readers would find themselves in a musical ambience. Using the descriptive-analytical approach, the present paper attempts to study the musical ambience of this ode in order to determine how much the poet has succeeded in benefiting from musical elements in conveying the intended meanings.
