relationship between religious beliefs and social support with optimism in Students of Medical Sciences

Interoductio: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between religious beliefs and social support and optimism in the students of Medical Sciences University of Golestan. The study is applied research and methodologically descriptive-correlational. The population of the study included all of the students of University of Medical Sciences that were 2,200 students. Participants of the study were selected by Krejcie and Morgan's (1970) table and stratified random sampling that were 103 cases. Alport's religious orientation, the social support questionnaire of Wax (1990), and the life orientation questionnaire (optimism) of Sheer and Carver (1985) were used to collect the required data.
Findings: The results were statistically significant. Tables of frequency, percentage of frequency, diagrams, mean, and standard deviation were employed for descriptive statistics. Multivariate regression, Pearson correlation, independent-t were used for inferential statistics. The results showed that there was a significant positive relationship between religious beliefs and optimism. In addition, a significant positive relationship existed between social support and optimism. Finally, it was found that there was a significant positive relationship between religious beliefs, social support, and optimism in the students of Golestan University of Medical Sciences.
