Abstract:
The pregnancy and birth process are important because they have directly been concerned with childhood health. The purpose of this research was to investigate the relationship between Apgar score and motor proficiency (gross motor skills) in 6-year-oldchildren in Bardaskan city. This is a descriptive-correlational study in which the statistical population included all the children born in Valiasser hospital in Bardaskan city in 2007. The statistical sample were selected in a purposeful and convenient manner (120 people including 60 boys and 60 girls). When the apgar scale data were recorded, Bruininks - Oseretsky test of motor proficiency were applied to evaluate gross motor skills. Research data were analyzed using spss 20 software and Pearson correlation coefficient. The results showed that there is no significant relationship between apgar score and gross motor skills. Based on the Pearson’s correlation results, it seems that the Apgar score may not be considered as a predictor for gross motor skills in this age.
