Abstract:
Sūzani of Samarqand made use, especially in his satires and lampoons, of such rare words that are often exemplified in dictionaries only by the poet’s own verses containing those words. Since the early compilers of dictionaries had at their disposal old codices of Sūzani’s Divān, they generally cited the correct versions of his verses. However, as the existing manuscripts of Sūzani’s Divān are hardly old enough, one can benefit from those very verses, like an alternative manuscript, in correcting his Divān.
