A Study on Adaptation (Jarh and Ta’dil) of the Religious Element of Shiite Narrators in Zahabi's Rejali Works

There are common narrators in Shiite and Sunni hadith sources, despite their religious differences, the acceptance of their hadiths always has been considered by Rijals of these two sects. In this regard, one of the topics discussed by the Sunnis Rijals was the study on the sect of the Shiite narrators and the proof or negation of their justice. Some of them believe that they are not righteous men and therefor they judge about the invalidity of the hadiths of Shiite narrators; to prove or negate this, one can search on the works of the ancestors in this regard. For this purpose, the present lecture has taken in account the role of the sect’s element in judgment of Shams al-Din Zahabi, as a famous Sunni Rijali man. According to the use of “adaptation (Jarh and Ta’dil) ” word in the Zahabi’s works, it can be said that pledges are categorized into two categories of “emphatic” and “strict”, and his comment about Jarh of narrators was stated regardless of sect, or he just quoted the thought or idea of others regard some Shiite narrators. It seems that Zahabi, as one of the pioneers of the Sunni Rijal, believed that it is not right to
attribute Jarh to Shiite narrators because of their sect (Shiite) , but the criterion of the weakness of the narrator is existence of another defects that, according to him, loss the authenticity of the hadith and imply the absence of one of the conditions of narrator; as Zahabi in his words, disputes the religious heresies attributed to the Shias narrators. Therefore, merely to being Shiite (Shi'ism) of narrators will not be a criterion for the discredit narrations.
