Reflection of science and Technology news at 8pm newscast of Channel 4 of Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB)

Media by encouraging people to learn more and improve the position of science in society can pave the way for development. Television is one of the most important source for its audience to have access to news on science and technology. One of the ways to play such important role is to magnify science and technology in news programs. The statistical population of research work and analysis of the quantity content are all bulletin aired during the second half of Iranian Year 1395( 2016) by systematic sampling method and 60 newscast of 8pm news bulletin of channel 4 were analyzed. Results of the study show that the most frequent news items were related to science, university and research and less frequent were nutrition science. In technology sector, the most frequent new items were related to information technology and less frequent items were about carpet and textile. These news items had been presented in format of sound bite (narrations over video footage) technique. Most of the news were hard news. In this news section, number of local news were more than foreign ones and most of them were newsworthy items and updated stories. Among the news sources activists of science sector, government officials were more signified and science-based companies and general public were less referred. Some 70 percent of science and technology new were aired at the first half of this news section
