The Relationship between the Lifestyle of 11-to-14-Year-Old Students in Tehran and the Ranking of Civil Services

Abstract:
Introduction
A healthy lifestyle at school ages lead to the institutionalization of behavior in the person and its occurrence in adulthood. The facilities in the living environment can influence a person’s choice that forms his/her lifestyle. Therefore, the goal of the researcher is to examine the relationship between the lifestyle of students aged 11 to 14 in Tehran with the ranking of civil services.
Materials and Methods
This descriptive-survey study was conducted on 386 students in Tehran during a multi-stage sampling. The research instrument was a questionnaire containing demographic questions and a standard lifestyle questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVAs, Spearman correlation tests, and Mann-Whitney nonparametric tests were used to analyze the collected data.
Results
The average total lifestyle score was moderate in each regionover-rewarded (177.36±26.66), middle-rewarded (177.78±25.54) and under-rewarded (179.77±25.54). There was no significant relationship between the lifestyle of students in different regions with the ranking of civil services (p=0.498). The highest average was related to the health dimension and the lowest mean was obtained for the stress management dimension. Regarding health promotion behaviors, in boys' physical activity, boys received a better score than girls (p=0.022). Also, in terms of nutrition (p<0.001) and interpersonal relationships (p= 0.029), girls were significantly better than boys.
Conclusion
According to the findings of this study, it can be concluded that the ranking of civil services do not affect health promotion behaviors of students in Tehran. Therefore, it is necessary to find other factors that encourage young people to have a better lifestyle.
