Identification of effective factors in the application of digital object identifier for content of Persian Periodicals

Abstract:
Purpose
This study aimed to identify effective and barriers factors in the application of digital object identifier for the Persian periodicals content. Methodology
This descriptive survey (Delphi) used a Researcher-made questionnaire on a sample of editors and editorial members of Persian scientific journals in the field of knowledge and information science (20 participants). Findings
The results showed that among 45 items that, 10 and 22 items were identified as effective factors and barriers, respectively, for application digital object identifiers. So that “providing descriptor metadata such as title” was the most effective factor with an mean of 4.60, and the barrier “lack of membership of Iran in the digital object identifier system for various reasons including academic sanctions” with an mean of 4.65 in the application of digital object identifier for Persian periodicals content. Conclusion Identification of effective factors and barriers regarding the application of digital object identifier for Persian periodicals content could help the authorities to resolve barriers for implementation of digital object identifier and to gain its benefits in Iran.Keywords:
