Comparing cognitive functions in course of addiction: from tendency to ‎withdrawal

Abstract:
Purpose
Despite the fact that in recent years, the prevalence of addiction in Iranian society has risen, but not everyone involved in this phenomenon. It seems that some environmental, behavioral, personality and cognitive readiness share vulnerability to addiction. This study in the line of cognitive readiness investigation, has comparing cognitive inhibition and planning in a group of addicted, on medicated addicted, two groups of adolescences with high and low tendency to addiction, and healthy individuals.
Method
To this, 179 persons were asked to perform Stroop and Tower of London tasks.
Results
The results of MANCOVA in cognitive inhibition showed that there was no significant difference between healthy, low and high tendency groups. The addicted and on medicated groups performed weaker, and the addicted group were the worst. The results also showed in cognitive planning the worst performance was related to addicted group, and in the second place performance of on medicated group was significantly better than addicted and worse than the other groups. The high, low tendency and normal groups performed better from low to high degree, respectively.
Conclusion
In sum, the results indicated that there were significant differences among addicted, on medicated addicted, two groups of adolescences with high and low tendency to addiction, and healthy individuals.
