Training paint making techniques was a part of training program of apprentices and many Persian treatises on techniques of paint making remains from the end of 11th century onward. These references besides interviews with contemporary traditional artists and the published results of analytical studies on Persian historic artworks made a set of references for us to know about palette of Persian painters in different periods and to know about the losing the historic techniques of pigment production after importing the readymade western art materials. Current article is trying to draw a general scope of our knowledge about historic paint making in Iran basing on these above-mentioned triple references.
