Causes of Nephrectomy in Shiraz City in 2018
Nephrectomy is the last step in the treatment of renal disease and has several causes. Removing the kidney tissue is a great blow to the patient’s health. The purpose of this study was to survey the causes of nephrectomy in 2018 in Shiraz.
A total of 78 records of nephrectomy were reviewed in 2018 at Shiraz Namazi Hospital. The records were extracted from the archives and the specifications were written in the researcher-designed questionnaire. Patients’ information was evaluated by SPSS 16.
The mean age of the patients was 46.29±12.46 years. Of the patients under study, 53.85% were male and 69.23% were married. More than half of the cases were related to the left kidney (52.56%); and the nephrectomies were simple (41.03%), radical (26.92%) and partial (23.08%) respectively. In the study, the causes of nephrectomy in patients were chronic pyelonephritis (33.33%), renal tumors (28.21%), homonfrosis (19.23%), and other cases with a low prevalence (19.23%), respectively.
Chronic pyelonephritis was the most common cause of nephrectomy. The most important causes of nephrectomy in renal disease were infections. Therefore, the diagnosis and treatment of renal infections in a timely manner can prevent kidney damage and breakdown. Nephropathy can be controlled by controlling renal infections.
