Abstract:

This article addresses new technologies at crime scenes including software related to documentation or measurement, evidence search and detection tools and laboratory techniques used at crime scenes, as well. Today general trend is towards development of complex technologies (including fast DNA profiling) which are portable and can be carried to crime scenes to be used there. The ability to bring large equipment to crime scenes or in other words, portability provides crime scene investigators with the ability to gather more details and information in less time. Technologies such as fast DNA profiling, various light sources, ground penetrating radars, Raman spectroscopy and portable FTIR, portable laser scanners and the like are among technologies that can contribute to correct evidence gathering and fast solving of cases. In the near future, crime scene investigators will be able to select very small evidences and analyze them using fast technologies and while they are advancing their investigations at crime scenes, they can obtain information about the origin of the evidences and identify them.
