The Effectiveness of Resiliency Training on Reducing Anxiety and Increasing Adjustment of Mothers of Children with Autism Disorder

Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of resiliency training on reducing anxiety and adjustment of mothers of children with autism disorder in academic year 2018-2019. The quasi-experimental research design was pre-test and post-test with control group. The statistical population consisted of all mothers of children with autism who had been admitted to special centers in Kermanshah during the academic year 2018-2019. Sample size of 40 mothers of children with autism in Kermanshah city were selected through purposive sampling and randomly available. All participants completed the resiliency questionnaire as a pre-test. The experimental group received 12 sessions of resiliency skills training, but the control group received no intervention. The results showed that resiliency training was effective on mothers of autistic children and the experimental group showed a significant increase in resiliency. Since resiliency of these mothers was lower than normal, so by teaching resilience skills to these mothers, these capacities can be upgraded.
