Reviewing and Studying the Causes of the Islamic Revolution in Iran (From 1976 to 1979)

Considering the importance of the Iranian Revolution, having been able to make a large change in all aspects of society, internal and external scholars have made some ideas in search for its causes and explanation. This research is mainly aimed at investigating the causes of the revolution in Iran. It tries to answer this main question: “What was the cause of the revolutionary movement of the Iranians, and the emergence of the revolution and the uprising of people during 1976 to 1979?” Applying documentary analysis method and reviewing official documents, books, and articles, the researchers tried to provide the views of Skachpol, Smasler, Imam Khomeini (RA), Foucault and Foran on the Islamic Revolution from revolutionary perspectives. The researchers hypothesized that the imposing of massive changes in the country by the regime’s institutions, competition between the superpowers for increasing their influence, the evident opposition of the regime to the dominance of Islam, which was one of the most important issues of the society those days, created a popular reaction and uprising. People had become aware of the social, political, and religious issues relating to the situation and performance of the Shah's regime. Eventually, people managed to win the revolution on February 22, 1979 by their revolutionary activities under the leadership of Imam Khomeini.
