A Step toward Designing a Merit Model for NAJA Commanders and Managers
Given the type of police’s activity which, per se, has a special need to managerial skills such as communicative skills, teamwork, quick and effective decision-making, etc., as well as the importance of each merit on the basis of different levels of power and command hierarchy in the police, designing skill criteria and indicators as a merit model especially at managerial levels are particularly significant and essential. In the merit model, functional skills and diverse secondary merits are put in general categories as primary merits; and these merits are also categorized as pivotal merits. The process of designing the model of merit for the Iranian police comprises five stages: review of literature, interview with the police genii, senior managers as well as successful and outstanding people in this area, providing the preliminary list of police’s merits, validation of police’s merits with statistical analyses, and finally, designing and presenting the police’s merit model. This article deals with the concept, necessity, importance, and the general process of designing merit in the Iranian police, and presents the proposed preliminary model of the Iranian police.
