The filtering bubble and personalization of information in social media

Abstract:
Emergence of social media has changed the scale and speed of sharing news and information. But despite such development, desire by users to contact people of their liking and installing advising algorithms by various platforms in order to attract users and control the volume of the extra information, danger of polarization and online separation,  have increased the possibility of using partial and harmful information. In other words, the user by personalization of the content, while depriving himself from various outlooks, exposes himself to materials that confirm his prejudices that he has had believed before. This practice leads to information imprisonment of the user and formation of filtering bubble and information shield around him. In case the published information in this bubbly space and echo chambers, like fabricated news to be harmful, it would be dangerous in many ways to an extent that can disrupt the process of democracy and social understanding and create a divided society. In this research work, by reviewing the scientific sources, we have introduced the filtering bubble and its impact on polarization of communities and consumption of the fabricated news.
