The comparison of quality of life, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance of people with and without migraine
Migraine is one of the most common neurological diseases and a factor in reducing the quality of life. Emotion regulation is one of the contributing factors to quality of life. Chronic migraines lead to less distress tolerance. According to evidence, emotion regulation and distress tolerance play an important role in the quality of life. The research was to compare the quality of life, emotion regulation and distress tolerance of people with and without migraine.
This is a cross-sectional study. The research sample included two groups of 40 people with migraine patients (who referred to neurological clinics in Kashan in the spring and summer of 1397) and people without migraine (who were selected from the general population). The research tools: Migraine Disability Scale (MIDAS), Quality of Life Scale (WHOQOL-BREF), Difficulty in emotion regulation Scale (DERS), Distress Tolerance Scale (DTS).Data analysis was performed using SPSS-19 software and independent t-test.
there was a significant difference between the two groups with migraine and normal people in the quality of life of (t=-7.56), emotion regulation (t=18/78) and distress tolerance (t=-3.57,p<0.001).
People with migraine reported lower levels of quality of life, emotion regulation and distress tolerance than without migraine. Migraine is a chronic pain decreases the quality of life. Disturbance in emotion regulation leads to an increase in the severity of pain. In addition, these patients suffer from distress intolerance because they cannot relieve their pain.
