Modeling the Urban Transport System Using the System Dynamics Approach: Policies to Reduce Traffic
Transportation is one of the main pillars of urban life that must be coordinated with its cultural and social factors and the combination of different types of transportation must meet the demand for urban transport. The absence of an effective urban transportation system has been a barrier to the economic growth of cities and there are many problems, such as traffic congestion, air pollution, increasing fuel consumption, vehicle depreciation, and so on. Considering these consequences and the importance of transportation as the dynamics and vitality of an urban set, determining appropriate strategies and policy making for the control and improvement of traffic parameters is of great important.
In this study, using the systems dynamics method has been defined a comprehensive and integrated model for an urban transportation system with emphasizes on public transportation. The model has been analyzed using behavior simulation in the software environment and using the data of Tehran.
The results of simulation of the model show that the simultaneous application of co-policies between public transportation and land use, the provision of electronic services and the improvement of the quality of public transport services can contribute to the improvement of the traffic problem and the resulting damage, including air pollution and resulting mortality .
In line with the policies introduced, the implementation of the system for providing electronic services in companies and organizations and training individuals on how to use it, as well as considering the maximum distance of 8 to 10 minutes walking from home to work to the public transportation center, reconstruction of infrastructure in order to achieve Proper transportation, along with the proper use of the street, the creation and provision of private ride facilities near metro stations and bus terminals are the most important ones that can be prioritized
