Abstract:
Pedestrians have emerged as the vulnerable groups of road accidents. Many studies have been done on pedestrian traffic crashes, which in the most of them the statistical analysis is the description of the intensity and the repetition of traffic crashes. Studies have shown that the most pedestrian-vehicle crashes occur when a pedestrian crossing the roadway within a crosswalk especially in roadways that continuous width of the roadway is high. This paper focuses on determining the impact of factors such as the contrast of crosswalk line’s color, uneven pavement surface conditions, operating conditions on the streets and vehicle speed and volume on residential streets in the cities with smooth surfaces such as Isfahan and Yazd. In the present study, the decision tree, which is one of the numerical taxonomy methods, is used for forecasting the results because of its easy to interpret and easy to understand. Based on the results of cluster analysis of pedestrian crossing behavior, lack of surface roughness up to 75% and appropriate contrast lining of 2.05 cause more than 70% pedestrians cross the marked crosswalks. Also, from the interviewees’ replies have been concluded that the behavior of pedestrians in not crossing a marked crosswalk is a response to the behavior of drivers not paying attention to the pedestrian crosswalks.
