A field study on relation of accidents and texture of asphalt pavement, Case study Rajai street in Tehran
Slipperiness of the road surface is one of the factors which increase the risk of accidents, Road friction changes with change pavement texture. In this research tried to study on the effect of the mean surface macrotexture depth on the accidents. This field study has been performed by examining the statistical information related to traffic and accidents and case study of a street with heavy traffic in Tehran. Sand patch test was used to determine mean surface macrotexture depth. Finally indicated that macrotexture depth of pavement decreases by time and traffic crossing. First this decrease is more and then gradually declines. Results have shown that number of accidents decreased sensibly by modifying pavement texture.
