Manifestations of Migration in Hajj from the Perspective of Muslim Mystics (5th and 6th Centuries)
Migration is a determining factor in the individual and social life of human beings. The concept of migration in Islam is not limited to the movement of the Prophet (S) with some Muslims from Mecca to Medina but as a general rule addressed to the man going on all the times and places with variousexternal and internal manifestations. Hajj is one of the pillars of Islam and one of the acts of worship being performed in all historical periods since the time of ‘Adam (AS). Using library and documentary methods and quoting the Holy Qur’an, valid narrations, and the opinions of the prominent Muslim mystics of the 5th and 6th centuries such as Qushayri, Khajeh Abdullah Ansari, Ghazali, Ain al-Qudat Hamedani, and Rashid al-Din Meybodi, the present study examines the various manifestations of migration in the Hajj and states that the Hajj, in its outward and inward dimensions, is the perfect instance of migration. Also, other different manifestations of migration such as spiritual travel and learning, migration from Dar al-Kufr to Dar al-Islam, migration from the land of oppression, migration as death and transfer from this world to the Hereafter, migration to acquire knowledge, migration from sin and evil, migration to know the Imams and the path to God are revealed in the Hajj. The most comprehensive manifestation in the Hajj is migration from evil and sin; of course, the superiority of knowing the Imams over the other manifestations is evident.
