Investigating the mediating role of work-family conflict in the relationship between proactive personality trait and marital satisfaction
Marital satisfaction plays an important role in the couple's life expectancy. It has been found that this construct is related to the occupational and personality characteristics of the couples. Accordingly, in this study, the mediating role of work-family conflict in the relationship between proactive personality and marital satisfaction has been assessed. The sample consisted of 142 married men and women working in an organization in Isfahan who were selected by simple random sampling and responded to research measures including the Proactive Personality Scale (PPS), the ENRICH Marital Satisfaction Scale (ENRICH), and the Work-Family Conflict Scale (WFCS). SPSS software and correlation coefficient and mediation analysis with the Bootstrap method was used for data analysis. The result showed a positive relationship between proactive personality and marital satisfaction. Also, there were negative relationships between proactive personality and work-family conflict and between marital satisfaction and work-family conflict. The mediating role of work-family conflict was also confirmed. Based on the results, organizations can use employees and applicants with proactive personality in occupations that, due to their special nature, may create work-family conflict. Organizational staff can also teach conflict management techniques to employees with proactive personalities by conducting training courses, thereby reducing work-family conflict, and improve marital satisfaction.
