The Comparison of Mood Characteristics and Components of Marital Interaction in mothers regards to range of visually impairment in children
The current study was adminstrated with the aim of investigating mood characteristics and components of marital interaction in mothers with one or more than one child with visually impairment.
The research method was descriptive and the design was ex post facto. The population of this study was three categories of mothers with one child, more than one child with visually impairment and mothers of children without visully impairment living in cities of Tehran and Karaj in 2017 , that from each category 120 of mothers were with one visually impaired child, 104 mothers with more than one visually impaired child and 120 mothers with children without visually impaiment were selected voluntary. The assessment tools of this study were Brunel Mood Scale (BRUMS) (2007) including two dimensions (positive and negative mood) and Afrooz’s Marital Interaction Scale (2012).
The results of multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) showed that mothers with more than one child with visual impairment had higher scores in negative mood such as stress, depression, anger, fatigue and confusion and lower scores in positive mood such as vitality, relaxation and happiness in comparison to the other two groups (p <0.001). Mothers with a child with no visual impairment had higher scores in positivity, personal behaviors, relational and social behaviors, problem solving, financial management, religious feeling, parenting manner, spending leisure time, and emotional interaction than the two clinical groups (p<0.001).
Implementing preventive and make knowledge actions with the goal of accepting child's disability, increasing positive emotions towards the child, and training coping skills in face of fatigue due to care, especially those with more than one child with disabilities, can reduce the stress of caring, and spending free time to pay attention the needs of self and the spouse helps maintain a satisfied relationship in parents in order to take advantage of this capacity for dyadic coping with the problems of caring disabled child.
