Developing and validating a family resilience model based on Quranic teachings

Abstract:
Purpose

The aim of this study was to compile and validate the family resilience model based on Quranic teachings.

Materials and Methods

The research method is a qualitative method that includes library study, review of texts, reference to the opinions of experts and scholars in the field. Method of information analysis based on nominal and content validity and survey (The views of religious and psychological experts). The content of the model was selected from topics that had more than 80% of the agreement of the experts in religious sciences and psychology and was used in the model. Thus, the basic framework of this concept was extracted by referring to books and scientific articles related to resilience. And resilience key axes in the family were identified. In the second step, the characteristic of a resilient family is extracted from the Qur'an and the authentic sources of Islam and the key axes of resilience were calculated with this approach. Then, by referring to the professors of psychology who were familiar with the concepts of the first step and also referred to the views of religious and Qur'anic experts who were familiar with and mastered the content of the second stage. The nominal and content validity of this model was evaluated and in the third step, the amount of agreement between the evaluations of the two expert groups was measured and shared.

Findings

According to the research background and review of more than 50 definitions of resilience in the scientific literature of psychology and extracting 150 keywords and Quranic equivalents for them and presenting it to the above-mentioned experts, Finally, five main components of family resilience have been extracted from the Qur'an with this approach: (1) self-awareness, (2) faith, (3) piety, (4) patience, and (5) hope. It is worth mentioning that a treatment-educational protocol was developed based on these 5 main components, the effectiveness of which will be reported in another article.

Conclusion

As a result of this research and based on the five main components based on Quranic teachings including self-awareness, faith, piety, patience and hope, the pattern of family resilience with a Quranic approach can be designed and validated.
