A Review of Iranian Studies of the Effect of Anxiety Reduction Nursing Interventions in Patients Undergoing Angiography

Coronary angiography -as the most diagnostic intervention in patients with coronary artery disease- is associated with high levels of anxiety in the patient. This study aimed to review the studies related to anxiety reduction nursing interventions in patients undergoing angiography

In this review, data collection was carried out through PubMed, Science Direct, Scopus, Goolgle Scholar, Magiran, Iranmedex, SID databases according to use Persian keywords such as nursing interventions, anxiety, angiography and their synonyms keywords. Range of time for researching all of the articles was between 2009 and 2019.Finally, 20 articles were entered in this study.

The results of twenty clinical trials and quasi-experimental studies indicate a decrease in the level or average score of anxiety through the use of nursing interventions including supportive care and nursing education, video training on how to perform angiography and clinical care afterwards, music therapy with guided imaging, acupressure, massage therapy among cardiac patients angiography.

Discussion and Conclusion:

According to the results of the present study, the use of nursing-based interventions reduces anxiety in patients undergoing coronary angiography. Therefore, according to the patient’s condition and preference, the above methods can be used to reduce the patient’s anxiety.
