Research synthesis: Features of university textbook

This study aimed to systematically study and present‎ an ultracombination of the works of local and international researchers on the desirable characteristics of university textbooks. The method used in this study was qualitative research synthesis. The research community included 60 relevant researches that have been carried out during the last 20 years. The obtained results are in the form of semantic units and coding of competencies. In the first stage, 150 codes were created and organized by analyzing the qualitative content in 25 categories in order to achieve the two objectives of the research. The first objective was to identify the most important components of composing and developing textbook as well as identifying the four themes: 1) Scientific Accuracy; 2) Educational Nature; 3) Audience-Oriented Approach; 4) Writing Accuracy. For the second objective, a model was designed based on which the component of transparency of expression was the common component of the three themes: Educational Nature, Scientific Accuracy, and Writing Accuracy. Components of holism and coherent scientific structure are the common factors of Scientific Accuracy and Educational Nature themes, and the concept of transferring values is the common factor of ‎ Educational Nature and Audience-Oriented Approach.
