The Study of Perception and Expression of Nouns and Reliability of Two Visual Comprehension and Expression of Nouns Tests in Mild-Moderate Hearing Loss Children
Children with hearing loss demonstrate cognitive, communication, speech and language deficits. Poor organization in mental lexicon and reduction in vocabulary are the obvious consequences of hearing loss. The main objective of this study was to evaluate perception and expression of nouns, and test-retest reliability of two picture-pointing and picture-naming tests, in Farsi-speaking in mild- moderate hearing loss children in Hamadan.
It was a descriptive-analytic and cross-sectional study. 58 Hearing loss children mean age 4.3± 1.92 (25 females, 31 males) were selected from Niousha Rehabilitation Center of Hamadan. Two picture-pointing and picture-naming tests were used in this study. For the sake of test-retest reliability, 10 evaluated two times with one day time interval.
There was a significant positive correlation between mean scores of perception and expression (P=0.001, r=0.679). Mean scores of girls and boys was not statistically different. Findings about test-retest reliability show that, these two tests have optimal reliability.
Descriptive statistics of the mild-moderate hearing loss children can be part of normative data alongside other findings of other cities of Iran. In addition, confirmation of reliability shows part of the efficiency of these two tests in research and clinical settings.
