Effect of diclazuril on growth performance in broilers with Eimeria tenella

Abstract:
One of the most important protozoan diseases in poultry industry is coccidiosis, and eradication of disease has become one of the most challenging issues in animal husbandry and veterinary medicine. The damages resulted from coccidiosis to poultry industry is estimated $ 1 billion annually. Diclazuril, a benzene acetonitrile, is used to treat coccidiosis in poultry. In the following study, 90 one-day-old broilers were bred and categorized into 3 groups as follows: Group 1: Recipient of basal diet for the whole period of test. Group 2: Broilers with basal diet + 0.25 ml suspension including 30,000 Eimeria tenella oocysts from 14 days of age (oral inoculation). Group 3: Recipient of basal diet + 0.25 ml suspension including 30,000 Eimeria tenella oocysts from 14 days (oral inoculation) + diclazuril, a coccidiostat, (200g/ton) from one day. From each group, at 28 and 49 days of age, 9 broilers were randomly selected and their growth performance and carcass characteristics were assessed. Diclazuril could improve the growth performance in boilers with coccidiosis.
