Evaluation of Qur'anic opinions of some contemporary orientalists
The Muslim Qur’ānic scholars should have a detailed understanding of the orientalists’ viewpoints toward the qur’ānic studies so that they can criticize those viewpoints. The fulfillment of this issue requires them to get familiar with the orientalist qur’ānic scholars and their works. After an introduction to the necessity of this understanding and the presentation of some resources on the scientific biography and bibliography of the orientalists, the study at hand briefly introduces six contemporary orientalist qur’ānic scholars and their works on the qur’ānic studies based on the Persian alphabet order. Moreover, the viewpoints of each of them toward the qur’ānic discussions have been examined. In this article, the names of outstanding orientalist qur’ānic scholars such as Brinner, Sells, and Wansbrough can be seen. The examination of the orientalists’ works on the qur’ānic discussions reveals that some of them have either written a separate work on the qur’ānic studies or have addressed the qur’ānic studies in line with their Islamic discussions.
